Seeking God

Wandering through the wilderness of my agnostic existence
Ever searching for that proverbial path of least resistance
Yet stumbling over satan’s obstacles all along the way
Thus I continued on with my life, day after day after day
Until I came to a place with only walls on every side
Unable to climb, nowhere to turn, and no place where I could hide.

Little did I know then, God had brought me to this place
Patiently waiting for the time when I would seek His face
I cried out, “Lord, I cannot go on like this any longer”
“Perhaps I could if only my faith were so much stronger”
“Only You can help me now,” I prayed down on my knees,
“Show me the truth about Jesus -- oh please, my God, oh please!”

I wondered if my people, the Jews, had been right all along,
Still waiting for their Messiah to come, or were they really wrong?
I knew so little about these things, and had so much to learn.
Which way to go?  I needed to know.  My heart began to burn
With desire to know the truth.  I prayed, “God, show me the way.”
And so a brand new chapter of my life began that day.

Where does one such as I go when looking for a church?
Was it Divine intervention that so quickly ended my search?
When a long-lost friend invited me, I accepted her invitation
And when I went there, soon I learned the way to my salvation.
I listened as the preacher told us we shouldn’t hesitate
For our souls to go to Heaven, we must obey Acts Two Thirty-Eight.

I felt conviction settle in my heart and I confessed
I’m a sinner and my life till now has been an awful mess
So I went up to the altar, and on my knees I prayed
A strange feeling came over me, but I didn’t feel afraid
Then Jesus came into my heart, but there was so much more
I heard myself speak in a language I had never heard before.

I felt the most wonderful feeling such as I’d never felt before;
Unable to remain standing, I was helped down to the floor.
When I arose, they told me, “Here’s what just happened to you:
“You’ve been filled with the Holy Spirit, and now you’re a ‘completed Jew.’”
So I went into the water and was baptized in Jesus’ name
And since that day my life has never been the same.

Now what I’ve told you is the truth, hard to believe as it may be
No longer bound by sin and guilt, my soul has been set free
I live my life for Jesus now in all I do and say
I do my best to serve the Lord each and every day
No longer do I wander through that wilderness of sin
Since I opened up my heart and let my Savior enter in.
